Yoga is benefiting my students by giving them a tool they can use in any situation to refocus their attention and control their emotions.

I have met with success using breathing techniques in and out of the classroom to calm children and get them back on track, with control. It has been greatly beneficial with children with anger management issues.

Yoga positively impacts our student's health, wellness, fitness and mental capacities. It also allows them to practice self-control and self-discipline, using what they learn in yoga classes and applying it to real life situations that they face on a day to day basis.

Yoga has taught my five- and six-year-old students what it means to settle themselves, to breathe deeply and to relax. Those are often terms that we use with young children and in reality they do not know what it means or how to do it. I find that they are able to go from being very active to being in a controlled activity quickly.

Our students have learned a variety of breathing techniques that they can apply to real-life situations. They have learned how to calm themselves down when they are angry, upset or excited. They have also learned how to take some energizing breaths throughout the school day when they start to feel themselves slip away from focus. It has benefited Mitchell students’ physical fitness as well as mental fitness. The kids are stronger and more flexible and also able to concentrate for longer periods of time and maintain focus.
